When I recently asked ChatGPT, <\/span>\u201cWho is Hilary Lewis and what does she do?\u201d<\/span><\/i>, I didn\u2019t expect a minor identity crisis to follow.<\/span><\/p>\n

The AI\u2019s answer was flattering! it referenced my Accountex speaking sessions, articles, and even my masterclass appearances BUT every single one listed my old job title and previous company.<\/span><\/p>\n

In that moment, my point was perfectly proven and painfully personal: <\/span>your digital footprint doesn\u2019t always move when you do.<\/b><\/p>\n

The AI Shift. From Google to \u201cWho Are You, Really?\u201d<\/b><\/h3>\n

We\u2019ve spent years learning how to make Google love us. SEO, keywords, backlinks, we mastered them all. But with AI now increasingly being used to <\/span>search for people<\/span><\/i>, not just websites, the rules have changed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other generative platforms don\u2019t just index; they interpret. They pull from credible, contextual, human-sourced content (press, interviews, reputable mentions) to build a picture of who you are.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s when it hit me: <\/span>if AI is the new search engine, PR is the new SEO.<\/b><\/p>\n

Why PR and Visibility Matter More Than Ever<\/b><\/h3>\n

Credibility can\u2019t be coded. Algorithms can only amplify what already exists. If your name is attached to nothing but outdated bios or salesy posts, that\u2019s what AI will see and share.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thought leadership, media mentions, and authentic storytelling are now the assets that feed AI. The raw data that defines how the world (and machines) perceive your expertise.<\/span><\/p>\n

A few days before this little \u201cidentity crisis,\u201d we hosted a webinar at The Digital Accountants Club with <\/span>Samantha Harman<\/b>, all about PR and building credibility, and it really stuck with me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Samantha spoke about how your story is your strongest asset, and how if you don\u2019t tell it, someone (or something) else will. That line echoed in my mind later when I started making some demo content for the community about how AI pulls together your digital footprint.<\/span><\/p>\n

I hit record, typed into ChatGPT: <\/span>\u201cWho is Hilary Lewis and what does she do?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Within seconds, up popped a list of Accountex features, talks, and masterclasses BUT every single one still said <\/span>\u201cMarketing Director at WCF.\u201d<\/b> It was like being haunted by my old LinkedIn profile!<\/span><\/p>\n

It was funny at first, the demo worked perfectly! But it also hit a nerve. I realised that while I\u2019d been busy shouting about everyone else\u2019s story, I hadn\u2019t updated my own.<\/span><\/p>\n

And that\u2019s exactly what the webinar had warned about: <\/span>if you don\u2019t own your digital narrative, AI (and everyone else) will fill in the blanks for you.<\/b><\/p>\n

My Move to the Digital Accountants Club<\/b><\/h3>\n

When I joined <\/span>The Digital Accountants Club (DAC)<\/b> as Community Manager, I didn\u2019t just change my job title, I changed my mission.<\/span><\/p>\n

I first met <\/span>Jeri Williams<\/b> three years ago, and we hit it off immediately (even if she did rudely move to Dubai soon after!). When she returned to the UK, we started putting on events together, and when she asked me to officially manage the DAC community, I couldn\u2019t say no.<\/span><\/p>\n

Community-building is in my DNA. As <\/span>a twice-exited business owner,<\/b> I understand the pressures accountants and finance professionals face\u2026 the isolation, the marketing overwhelm, the struggle to keep up with tech. My passion is bringing people together to share, learn, and grow.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, alongside Jeri\u2019s accounting expertise and <\/span>Luke Farren\u2019s<\/b> technical consulting skills, DAC has become something genuinely different! Its a place where <\/span>business, marketing, and technology meet human connection<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every webinar, from AI automation to PR and marketing, reminds me why this work matters: accountants don\u2019t just need tools! They need a trusted <\/span>community<\/b> to help them navigate change, get their time back, and scale their business.<\/span><\/p>\n

The irony isn\u2019t lost on me: while teaching others about AI and visibility, I\u2019d neglected my own.<\/span><\/p>\n

So this article, and even the content that inspired it, is part of my own rebuilding process.<\/span>
