But that doesn\u2019t mean you and your practice should stand by and let it happen.<\/p>\n<p>How are you and your practice navigating the talent shortage?<\/p>\n<p>It is a question that applies not just to UK practitioners and Accountex attendees, but globally. Practices across the world are facing up to a resourcing and capacity crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The reasons for the talent shortage are many and varied, but the key takes from the Advancetrack 2026 Accounting Talent Index are:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Accountancy firms are now turning away clients because they lack staff;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Firms are reporting service lines are operating at or near full capacity; and<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Many say their ability to grow is being slowed by recruitment challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, fighting against a capacity headwind has impacted practitioners\u2019 mental health. Practitioners have suffered stress or anxiety because of the talent shortage.<\/p>\n<p>Taking control of your firm\u2019s destiny:<\/p>\n<p>But there are strategies and tactics that can be followed to mitigate the resourcing crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the 500 respondents to the Accounting Talent Index are:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Improving workflows and processes;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Adopting new cloud accounting or practice management technology;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Recruiting more junior staff and focusing on developing talent internally;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Investing in training, professional development and\/or upskilling programmes; and<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Outsourcing\/offshoring accounting tasks.<\/p>\n<p>Vipul Sheth, founder and MD of Advancetrack, said: \u201cThis shortage of skills is leading more firms to rethink how they structure their operations, and that involves looking at a combination of technology, outsourcing and new ways of working to help bridge the gap between demand and capacity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Practice leaders must be brave; to do more, and differently. They have to fundamentally reengineer how their practice does things, being laser-guided about what they offer and to whom.
